We enable a global network of journalists to provide the trustworthy news essential to free and strong societies.

Their vital work strengthens democratic ideals and spurs change. At ICFJ, we serve more than 160,000 journalists around the world, helping them cover the most critical issues of today, innovate to deeply connect with communities, and build news organizations that thrive.

As part of ICFJ’s alumni engagement efforts under the Professional Fellows Program for Emerging Media Leaders (PFP EML), we have an opportunity to support alumni attendance at the 2025 Estación Podcast Festival which will take place from May 20-25, 2025, in Madrid, Spain. In collaboration with Estación Podcast, two PFP EML alums will be selected to attend the 2025 Estación Podcast Festival with all expenses paid (flight, hotel, travel insurance and per diems). The selected PFP EML alums will do a live show of their podcast at the festival and be part of a round table that will discuss audio journalism in Latin America.

  • Podcast must be in Spanish.
  • The podcast episode that will be presented at the festival must be between 30-50 minutes long. This presentation must be a live show, intended for a live audience in Madrid. (The festival will provide any technical requirement needed for your show.)

If you have questions, please email Juan Zuniga at jzuniga@icfj.org.

Do you know of a journalism tool, app or resource that we haven’t covered? A media innovator who has a fascinating story to tell? Or do you simply want to discuss a current media trend taking place in your country?

If so, we want to hear from you.

IJNet accepts pitches from readers, and in doing so, we hope to build a network of global, diverse contributors whose work can help as many journalists as possible.

Most of our freelancers work in English, but we've recently added the opportunity to write in Spanish, Portuguese or Russian. If you would prefer to write in one of these languages, please indicate that on the form below.

We have noticed that many pitches are on topics unrelated to the content IJNet pitches. Before filling out the form, please familiarize yourself with IJNet content. We are a resource for journalists, and all our content focuses on the field of journalism. Below are some basic models for stories, with linked examples.

If we’re interested in your idea, we will get back to you as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we are not able to respond to everyone.

Not sure how to write a story pitch? Here are some tips from IJNet Contributor Sherry Ricchiardi.

Professional Fellows Program for Emerging Media Leaders (PFP EML) is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ). This application is for a reciprocal exchange opportunity for the US newsrooms that will host Latin American or Caribbean Fellows in the Fall 2025 cohort for the newsroom placement experience under the PFP EML program.

Eligibility:

Only applicants who were nominated by their respective newsrooms are eligible to apply. Outbound fellows must be U.S. citizens. (This is a competitive opportunity, and the trip is not guaranteed.)

More details about the trip:

The reciprocal exchange trip will be a two-week study tour of newsrooms, media institutions, civil society organizations, and cultural sites in the home country of one of the fellows from the Fall 2025 cohort. Our partner organizations will also help with any relevant reporting the visiting American would like to conduct and will help set up meetings tailored to the American fellow’s interests.

The selected countries for the program will be based on the availability of our host partner organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean. ICFJ will place fellows with organizations that match their backgrounds and interests.

The trip will tentatively take place for two weeks between May and June 2025. The exchange trip will also include a virtual Zoom ICFJ orientation before the trip. (Trip dates may be modified depending on fellow’s or the local partner organization’s availability. If you have more questions about trip dates, feel free to reach out about this.)

The application deadline is Tuesday, April 8, 2025 (11:59 PM EST) for the 2025 U.S. Outbound Program. If you have questions, please email, Juan Zuniga at jzuniga@icfj.org.
